Trostburg

When you look out of your window in the morning, you can look down on the Trostburg. It was built in the twelfth century and developed into a fortress in the seventeenth century. The minnesinger (minstrel) Oswald von Wolkenstein grew up in the castle. Tours take place from 5 April to 31 October.

Bad Dreikirchen

Bad Dreikirchen: Between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries, on the spot of an ancient heathen shrine, three small, nested churches were built, with Gothic winged altars and rich frescoes in the style of the medieval Brixner school. Dreikirchen can only be reached on foot via the area’s beautiful hiking paths. It also presents a wonderful panoramic view over the Eisack Valley. The key can be obtained from the Messner guesthouse, where you can also purchase refreshment. Tours are by prior appointment only

Der schiefe Turm von Barbian

The thirteenth-century Jakobskirche (St James’ Church) stands at the heart of the village and is famous for its crooked tower. Indeed, the parish church of Barbian is instantly recognisable, even from a distance: the church tower leans so much that many might doubt its structural stability. The tower height is around 37m, making the top of the tower a whole 1.57 m off kilter.

The Barbian Waterfalls

The Ganderbach falls in 8 cascades over a 200m high rocky crest into the valley. The waterfalls can be reached by a short walk from our building and provide a welcome cooling experience, especially in the hot summer months. This is a unique display of nature that you simply mustn’t miss out on!
